Sports
Zimbabwe as a nation has a long tradition in sport and has produced many world recognized sports personalities, in football, rugby, tennis, cricket, netball, etc.. Zimbabweans in Australia in general and in particular in South Australia are involved in sports.
ZIMPRIDE EVENT
The ZIMPRIDE is the largest community-run sporting event at national level. The event brings together community members of myriad backgrounds through the shared love of sport and multi-culturalism. The event not only does it bring sporting flavour, but also serves to promote and celebrate the rich cultures and diversity represented in our community and other communities. We believe that sport unite and build communities. The ZIMPRIDE tournament is a two day community event held over each Easter holidays, and is held rotationally among states/territories in Australia and New Zealand as well. The last time ZIMPRIDE was hosted in South Australia was in 2010 and 2016. Had it not been Covid-19, 2020 ZIMPRIDE was to be hosted by Queensland.
ZIMPRIDE fosters the spirit of togetherness among Zimbabweans and other nationalities by providing a platform of social Interaction in a bid to maintain good physical and mental health. We are a community that takes pride in the cultural diversity that Australia now has and the part that we play in this.
ZIMPRIDE Event is in support of Government of South Australia and other local governments towards “Be Active” initiatives.
Zimpride Australia tournament, though with a Zimbabwean flavor, is a national event that is attended by most other nationalities from around Australia. The tournament is designed to be an all-inclusive, where the participating teams have a mix of players from any country.
Issues commonly identified in sport as providing a negative cultural influence include going beyond the spirit of the game, verbal abuse, negative coaching behaviours and practices, athletes being pushed too hard by coaches or parents, negative administrative or officiating behaviours and practices.
It is important that members have the opportunity to provide feedback and take ownership of culture change. Consider conducting a club survey or holding a workshop to engage all stakeholders in creating change.

Church
According to researches, Christianity is the most dominant faith in Zimbabwe which accounts for roughly 93% of the population. Zimbabweans continue to be strong Christians in Diaspora. Most of ZICOSA members are active church members of different denominations as they come from Christian background. As Zimbabwean Christians, we live peaceable and we are respectful of each other despite our different denominations. Faith in God unites us as we all believe in the Tri-union and the Holy Bible scriptures
The death and resurrection of Jesus Chris is at the very heart of the Christian Faith. We believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for our sins to reconcile us back to God the Almighty (Musiki). Church is therefore an important pillar of the society for Zimbabweans. For this reason, ZICOSA works closely with churches and church leaders. Our ZICOSA calendar includes planned activities of various churches and All Churches Prayer day (Interdenominational) known as Zimbabwe Community Prayer Service. ZICOSA members are free to choose church/denomination to belong as their spirit leads. There are several churches here in SA and Australia wide that have been founded in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean Christians are also members of local churches here in SA and Australia wide. We have interdenominational (Mubatanidzwa) services quarterly for women.
Churches stand together in times of grieving and celebrations times like funerals, sicknesses, weddings, parties or Zimbabwe cultural celebrations like Independence Day. Various churches have Pastors/Leaders who are readily available for anyone who require spiritual guidance, counselling or spiritual wellbeing despite the individual’s denomination. Our Pastoral Team/Leaders contact church services to communities or groups of people if requested
ZICOSA works in close contact with the following churches. For more information please do not hastate to get in touch with contact persons for different churches as indicated. The churches are listed not in any order of importance.
